Kinesiotaping

Kinesio Tex Tape was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in 1973. It is a taping method that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process. It has been used for a long time in the sporting arena in the treatment and prevention of sporting injuries. It provides stability to muscles and joints without restricting the range of motion in the body. Other benefits include proprioceptive facilitation, reduced muscle fatigue, muscle facilitation, reduced delayed-onset of muscle-soreness and pain inhibition. Kinesio tape (KT) can also enhance healing by reducing oedema and improving lymphatic drainage and blood flow. Its usage can also prolong the effects of manual therapy.

How does it work?

KT targets different receptors within the somatosensory system. Its application will cause convolutions in the skin, which will microscopically lift the skin. According to theory, the convolutions will result in an increase in interstitial space, thus allowing for a decrease in inflammation of affected areas.

It can be applied in hundred of ways, using the single I strip or its modifications (Y, X, or other specialized shapes) and has the ability to re-educate the neuro-muscular system, reduce pain and inflammation, optimize performance, prevent injury and promote good blood circulation.
