Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

The lymphatic system helps eliminate your body´s waste by using the natural movement of the smooth muscle tissue. However, under certain circumstances (ex. surgery, congestive heart failure or blood clots), there is an excess of fluids that build up in the lymph system and the lymph nodes. In these cases, lymphatic drainage massage is suggested.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a unique, gentle type of skin massage technique that stimulates lymph flow. It uses a specific amount of pressure and circular movements to re-route the flow of stagnated lymph around blocked areas into more centrally located healthy lymphatic vessels, which eventually will drain into the venuous system. MLD also increases blood flow in deep and superficial veins.

The most common condition for which it is used is lymphoedema.
